Goals and Objectives

The overall goal of the course is for students to understand the health policy-making process in order that they may become more effective participants in the process.  At the end of the course students should be able to:

  1. describe the analytic framework for health policy formulation and analysis
  2. describe the role of the state in health policy under different political systems
  3. explain how the policy agenda is set
  4. define and describe the role of interest groups
  5. name and describe the influence and orientation of the major international actors including WHO, the World Bank, UNICEF, and others
  6. define globalization and understand the implications for health and welfare of populations around the world
